THE EVERLY BROTHERS EXPERIENCE FEATURING THE ZMED BROTHERS 10/4
Since 2016, brothers Zachary and Dylan Zmed along with their partner and drummer, Burleigh Drummond, have celebrated the pivotal music and history of The Everly Brothers legacy with enthusiastic crowds all across the US and overseas in prestigious venues. They say, “The music of the 50's and 60's is nostalgic for us, our parents raised us all on it, and we feel that the Everlys’ contribution is greatly overlooked, especially by younger generations. Our aim is not to impersonate but to do our best in honoring the aesthetics of their iconic sound and in honoring the important role they played in pioneering the rock n' roll movement, all while having a little fun sharing our own personal story,” and they do just that. With a father, (Adrian Zmed) as a traveling singer/dancer/actor (Grease 2, Bachelor Party, T.J. Hooker), and a mother (Barbara) as a second grade teacher in a suburb of Los Angeles, the Zmed Brothers continuously strive to pay homage to their personal roots by always infusing an instinctual blend of entertainment (a la Smothers Brothers) and contextual education in their performance.
The Everly Brothers career lasted over half a century. They recorded 21 studio albums, sold more than 60 million records world-wide, had over 30 billboard top -100 singles, which still to this day is the record for most billboard charting hits of any sibling rock duo ever. They received numerous accolades in their later career, and influenced countless legendary artists that came after them including, The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Bee Gees, Neil Young..and the list goes on. DAY OF THE DEAD/DIA DE LOS MUERTOS 11/1 - 11/3 (11/3 Performance SOLD OUT)
Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The multi-day holiday involves people gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support them in their spiritual journey.
The Day of the Dead is considered one of the most representative traditions of the Hispanic culture. The first day of November is a celebration to the saints of deceased children and the second to deceased adults. By day or night, families go in a respectful way and place gifts, floral arrangements and candles on the graves of their loved ones. Altars of the dead are placed in homes, buildings and public places in recognition of the deceased. The celebration of the Day of the Dead is a mixture of mystic devotion and pagan ritual, and is based on the belief that souls of the deceased can return to this world. Altars guide them on their way home and make the souls (animas) feel welcome and show them they haven’t been forgotten.
In The Grove presentation, there will be an altar, where attendees can bring remembrances of their dead loved ones, such as flowers, photos and memorabilia, and toys for dead children. Dancers and singers will celebrate the holiday in this presentation, which stars Marbella Corella, a finalist on La Academia 5 and Maureen Baeza, a semi-finalist in 2016 on the show Tengo Talento Mucho Talento. Trio Acapulco and Mi Tierra Ballet Folklorico from Mariachi USA Festival at the Hollywood Bowl will also perform.
This event is November 1 – 3, 2019. Villegas conveys to the viewer through his work, the importance of this celebration in the Hispanic culture.
Presented in English and Spanish.
Sunday, 2:00 pm performance SOLD OUT.
