Description: Virgil Gibson, former lead singer of the World Famous Platters appears at The Grove Theatre on Saturday, February 8th.  In addition to the Platters, Virgil has appeared with such great entertainers including The Drifters, The Coasters, The O'Jay's, Bobby Day, Dee Clark and Al Wilson. Virgil was also lead singer for over 17 years with the popular Rivingtons, whose hit includes “Papa Oom Maw Maw".  His career has taken him to perform in venues all over the world including Japan, Korea, Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Philippines, Denmark, Sweden, Canada and all over the United States.

Virgil’s recent CD recordings, “Virgil Gibson Sings the Oldies” Volume I and II, bring back the best of the Golden Age of the 50’s and 60’s music. Audiences of all ages and cultures thrill to Virgil’s six octave voice and charismatic personality. Virgil recently completed, “I Made It Back Home”, an album of traditional gospel favorites. Virgil’s limited edition CD single, “Be My Christmas Present”, is a favorite any time of year.

Virgil’s timeless style of music adds romantic spice to any venue, such as his appearance at the 2005 Country Starganza with Grand ‘Ole Opry legends Ray Price and Bobby Bare, and at the recent Franklin, Kentucky Music Festival with Blue Grass star Rhonda Vincent. Virgil also recently performed at the Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, Alabama with Grand ‘Ole Opry legend, Claude Gray.

Virgil genuinely enjoys hosting benefits for those in need. Virgil has a deep interest in using music therapeutically. "Music is one of the greatest counseling and teaching tools. It touches your deepest feelings and enables you to talk about those feelings and begin to deal with them."
